Founded in personal experience, the ultimate goal of the W6 foundation is to add color to the lives of inner city youth.

We aim to make a positive impact in the lives of our future leaders by: exposing them to new opportunities, allowing them to experience the beauty that both Chicago and the World offer, and educating them on the limitless paths available to them.

We seek to help level the playing field in the lives of the youth we interact with.

How We began

During the summer of 1993, our founder, Lawrence Walker, had a life changing experience. Mr. Walker was given the opportunity to work with the City of Colorado Springs’ youth summer program. He spent the summer working with the Colorado Rockies professional baseball team and expanding his knowledge of both baseball and business.

Realizing the impact this summer with the Rockies had on him, Mr. Walker sought to be a positive force in other children’s lives. Through varied interactions with Chicago’s youth it became clear that experiences often taken for granted (i.e. museums and Navy Pier) were not shared amongst all young people.

With this is mind, the W6 Foundation was created in July 2015.

What we do

In alignment with our goal of coloring and positively impacting young lives, we have provided a variety of experiences for the youth to interact with. Two of our most involved programs were the Youth Golf Camps and After School Program. We are looking to expand our programming into the STEM field, specifically robotics.

Visit our Projects page to see the projects the W6 Foundation offers.

We encourage community participation and welcome program ideas. This goal cannot be achieved alone.
